About Car Code Wiki

Car Code Wiki helps drivers understand what a trouble code means and what evidence is needed before a repair decision.

Why this site exists

Diagnostic trouble codes are useful, but the short description shown by a scanner is easy to misread. It can sound as though a named component has failed when the control module has only detected an electrical condition, an implausible signal or a system performance problem.

Car Code Wiki is built to close that gap. Each guide starts with a plain-English explanation, then adds symptoms, likely causes, urgency and a practical order of checks. The goal is to help a reader ask better questions and avoid replacing parts without evidence.

Who the guides are for

The site is written for vehicle owners, students, DIY enthusiasts and technicians who want a clear starting point. It is not a replacement for factory service information. Vehicle design, software, test limits and repair procedures can differ by year, engine, transmission and market.

Our point of view

A code is a clue, not a diagnosis. Safety comes before convenience. Tests should move from simple observations to measurements and only then to replacement. When a definition or procedure may be manufacturer-specific, the guide says so.
